Plans for a rally Oct. 26 against community college budget cuts are underway, according to Associated Student Organization (ASO) President Gabriel Mellibosky.
As an intern with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), Mellibosky is working this weekend to involve other Los Angeles community college campuses.
“We want to have a protest, so we’re trying to convince all the other campuses to do the same,” said Mellibosky.
According to a flyer for the event, fees might increase to $40 a unit and financial aid might get reduced again.
“If the classes stay the same and they don’t cut anything and they raise $10, I’ll pay the $10,” said Mellibosky. “But if they make us pay $10 and cut classes, I’m not going to do that.”
A public meeting regarding the rally and budget cuts will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m.. in the ASO Office’s conference room.
“We have to let them know that students are not happy with how everything is being handled,” said Mellibosky.
