Pierce College was missing its best pitcher who was out with injuries and replaced by sophomore Brandi Gilbert who pitched a three-run homer in the first inning, leading to 9-0 loss against Citrus College on Feb. 16.
“Three of my best players aren’t here today,” said head coach Pat Greenan. According to Greenan, Pierce was missing its best catcher, pitcher, and shortstop moving all the players out of position when facing (6-2 Western Conference) powerhouse Citrus. Greenan said that the team trained with the intention of having the three key players mentioned above in the game, but do to unforeseen circumstances ranging from injuries to family obligations they were absent from the game.
The absence was apparent on the field when Pierce was allowed only one hit over a five-inning stretch. On the other hand, the Citrus star pitcher freshman Corinne Milligan was there for the game and made her presence felt striking out 12 of 16 batters over five innings.
Pierce star pitcher will still be out with injuries indefinetly.
