Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill Friday that would ban the sale or rental of especially violent video games to children, setting up a legal showdown with the $25 billion industry.
The bill, which takes effect Jan. 1, prohibits the sale and rental of video games to children that depict serious injury to human beings in a manner that is especially heinous, atrocious or cruel.
Violation of the bill amounts up to $1,000 for each violation.

A woman was booted off a Southwest Airline flight for wearing a t-shirt with obscene words and images of President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Lorrie Heasley of Woodland, Wash., said she is going to press a civil-rights complain against the airline.
“Here we are trying to free another country and I have to get off an airplane over a T-shirt. That’s not freedom,” Heasley said.
