Students with the twinkle of Hollywood stardom in their eyes, had a chance to try out their acting skills during an open audition for the bookstore’s newest “Book Buy Back” commercial yesterday.
Twenty acting roles were available to students who tried out during morning and afternoon auditions.
Out of the twenty, eight were female positions, six were male roles and six were open to either gender.
The auditions were held in a small room in the back of the bookstore. Students acted out scenarios in front of Greg Osweiler, bookstore manager and Shani Simms, president of the Associated Students Organization.
Some students heard about the open auditions by flyers and by talking to other students.
Anthony Cruz, a fire technician major, said he found out the day before and “thought it (the commercial) would be fun.”
“I just came in to buy a pencil,” said Vladimir Afonin, a pre-nursing major, explaining how he simply stumbled across the auditions after coming into the bookstore.
This will be the 10th commercial produced for the “Book Buy Back” program according to Osweiler. The commercial aims to provide students with information about selling their books back to the bookstore, in an entertaining way.
The commercials have always varied in length at one time reaching eight minutes. This new commercial will have a run-time of around 30 seconds and will not feature any dialogue from the students according to Simms.
The commercials will be aired in the bookstore, the Freudian Sip, CopyTech and will also be on the Pierce College website.
Although there is no set film-date the commercial will most likely take place sometime this week according to Osweiler.
