Pierce College Women’s Basketball team fell to the Moorpark Raiders for the second time this season on Wednesday, 65-67.

Pierce (12-13, 3-5) went into Wednesday’s game having won two straight.

The 1st half consisted of both teams playing very little defense as both teams had multiple runs on offense.

Pierce had one of the biggest runs of the game as they ended the first half on a 17-2, run with big shots made by freshman Candyse Farmer and sophomores Samantha Velasco and Tess Williams. Williams had 15 at the half.

The Brahmas went into halftime up by seven with a score of 33-26.

Moorpark’s freshman Molly Carson began the second half solid for the Raiders as she hit her first 3 shots to start the half and brought her team within one, 34-33.

With 12:43 remaining in the second half, Moorpark’s Depika Kapil received a technical foul for an aggressive bounce after a called foul. Pierce’s Williams made the free throw as the Lady Brahmas went up seven.

Pierce’s freshman Habi Hanne fouled out of the game in the second half.

With 47.5 seconds remaining and the Brahmas trailing, sophomore Velasco tied the game for Pierce. However, Moorpark struck back with what would be the final blow, as freshman Reyneisha Mays scored a lay-up with 18 seconds left.

“Reyneisha stepped up big for us on defense as well as offense.” said Moorpark’s head coach Lindsay Goldblatt. “Our effort was much better in the second half.”

Pierce College’s freshman Ebony James did not play with a broken nose. Sophomore Jessica LogoLogo also did not play with a torn ACL.

“We were a little tired as well as beat up.” said Pierce’s head coach Jim Couch.

Like the first game at Moorpark, the Brahmas had the lead at half time but failed to finish strong.

“We stopped being aggressive.” said Couch.

Despite the loss, Pierce’s sophomore Williams led all scorers with 23 points. Sophomore Kapil and freshman Carson both had a team high 13 points for Moorpark.

“We made little mistakes, we kept coming back. We needed to get more rebounds and stops.” said Williams. “I hate to loose to the same team twice.”

The Brahmas will play there next game at home against Santa Barbara, Saturday at 5 p.m.
