I love the rain. Born and raised in California I don’t think we get nearly enough of it. But at the same time, it needs to stop interfering with sports!
We are heading into the end of February and it’s still raining.
Pierce’s tennis team finally played a match and beat Fullerton College, 8-1. They were scheduled to play twice last week but were canceled. They are supposed to travel to San Diego on Thursday.
The swim team did have a meet at Valley College. But what I didn’t know is that there are no team winners that come out of the meets. Basically, the best individual times for both the men and women’s team is what they are after. I will be posting those soon.
The men and women’s basketball teams ended their regular home seasons on a high note. Both teams celebrated sophomore night versus Oxnard College last Thursday.
During the first half the thought of playing the last game in the “Brahma dome” made sophomore Ryan Rubino sick. Literally. I’m not sure if it was nerves though. He had drained a couple 3-pointers. They let a 12-point lead dissipate in the second half but pulled out a thrilling win in overtime 93-91.
The lady Brahma’s had no problems on their side of the court. They held Oxnard to just 59 points while scoring 109. The women made the playoffs. I will keep my fingers crossed for them.
Pierce’s baseball team participated in the Rio Hondo Tournament this past week. They had three games. They went 1-1 and had a game canceled on Friday.
Pierce had a four game winning streak stopped by Ventura College on Saturday.
Ventura’s pitcher shut down Pierce’s bats despite not being overpowering. Pierce will have a chance to avenge the loss with two games against Ventura coming up this week.
