The Pierce College men’s basketball team lost the final game of the season against Cuesta College Cougars 63-52 on Saturday evening, in the Pierce gym.
Pierce did start the game with a slow lead, but quickly lost it in the first quarter with a struggling defense and left the Cougars controlling the tempo of the game and by halftime they had an 8 point lead.
The defense did pick up a little bit in the second quarter by creating some turnovers, but it still wasn’t enough to help the Brahmas win the game and they ended the game losing by 9 points.
“The story of our season a few plays here and there and the outcome would have been different,” said Coach Ed Babayan.
There were a few highlights of this game. Freshman guard Justus Von Wright scored 24 points.
“The team kept going at me and I just kept scoring,” said Von Wright. “I was a little disappointed we could have won a lot more games but, we were a little under sized and under man. Considering that’s we did as much as we could.”
Also it was sophomore night for the men’s basketball team and 6 of their players will be transferring to other schools including starting guard Corey Duncan.
“I feel like we under achieved, but we played hard, so you could say it was an average season,” said Duncan.
The season for the Brahma’s ended with a record of three wins and 9 losses in conference, 9 wins and 18 losses overall, and sixth place in the western conference.
“A little disappointing, I felt like we had a lot of good player’s, kids that worked really hard I hoped that we could get a lot more wins out of it,” said Babayan. “But, for the most part I am proud of them, we were short handed and hurt almost the entire year and we put everything on the court.”
