An electrical fire broke out in a storage room in the west side of the new Center for Sciences Building this morning, according to Sheriff’s Team Leader Ron Nohles.
Nohles said that a call was received at 10:08 a.m. from the construction site informing them of the situation. Within minutes, Sheriff’s closed off the area outside of the building between El Rancho and Olympic Drives and called the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Capt. Mike Taylor of the LAFD gave no official reason for the fire, but he believed it might be electric in nature.
According to Taylor, there was no significant damage.
“No harm, no foul,” he said.
The fire was deemed contained at 10:20 a.m. by Nohles.
Angel Rosales, superintendent of the project for Sinanian Development said that the fire was caused by a “wabble” construction light.
Fire personnel left the scene at 10:48 a.m. and have deemed the site safe for returning to work.
No injuries were reported.
