Two new deans appointed at Pierce College
Two new deans, Jose Luis Fernandez, dean of career and technical education, and Barbara Anderson, dean of academic affairs, were appointed on Aug. 11 and Sept. 1, respectively, at Pierce College. Fernandez worked as dean of vocational education at Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif.

A crowd of 600 packed Shepard Stadium Saturday night as the lights shone bright on the field for the first time this season, but not bright enough as the Brahmas dropped their home opener, 28-17, to the Moorpark College Raiders. The crushing blow, however, did not involve the scoreboard at all.
Women’s soccer team learns important lesson

It took an article in the Los Angeles Daily News to draw our attention to an $80,000 scam that has targeted students of Pierce College and other colleges in the San Fernando Valley for about a year. According to the Aug. 1 article entitled, “Students bilked for $80,000, cops say,” officials say they began to receive complaints from students at Pierce, Valley College and California State University, Northridge about a year ago.

Olympian alumni win golds
When Marv Dunphy steps onto the floor at Firestone Fieldhouse to begin his 26th season at the helm of the Pepperdine University Waves men’s volleyball team, it will be just another day at the office – at least to him. Dunphy will have held practice with his latest squad, will have gotten reacquainted with his returning players and will have gotten to know his new recruits, just like all of his opposing coaches.
