Another semester at Pierce College is coming to an end, and with this comes the ominous week of finals. Many will be clamoring to the library or organizing groups in order to get some studying done. We all knew this week was coming sooner or later, but I never would have imagined it to come this soon.

Stem Cell Cloning, an issue to ponder
The uproar all started ten years ago with a sheep named Dolly. Why, you ask? Because Dolly was the first animal to be cloned from an adult stem cell rather than an embryo. Since then, all types of animals have been cloned — cows, mouse, pigs, you name it.

Sweet dreams for Desdemona
Shakespearian plays of old are twisted into a laughing frenzy in “Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet),” a tasteful comedic play that mixes Shakespeare with Lewis Carroll. Created by Canadian playwright Ann-Marie MacDonald, “Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)” tells the tale of Constance Ledbelly (played by Jonica Patella), an assistant English professor whose obsession lies in the works of William Shakespeare-more specifically “Othello” and “Romeo and Juliet.
Calling all students and faculty
The Community College Initiative, Proposition 92, will appear on the Feb. 5 ballot. The main benefits to community colleges under Proposition 92 are that it not only lowers and stabilizes fees, but also separates community colleges from the all-too-frequent budget battles between the Democrats and Republicans.

As the semester is drawing to a close, it seems that the theme at Pierce College this fall was “improvement.” One way this is evident is in the expansive construction projects that were finished, or started, this semester. Things began in September with the grand opening of the S.
Campus-wide ban on all weapons
While pocketknives and box cutters may be considered utilitarian, think again before bringing them anywhere near or inside Pierce College’s campus. Possession of anything that might be used as a lethal weapon is forbidden on the college campus or at a college-sponsored function, except to sworn peace officers, police officers and other government employees charged with policing responsibilities.
Counselor at a loss for words after wildfire claims home
What would you do if everything you valued was lost in a matter of hours? For Pierce College special services counselor Leslee Cook, 55, and her faithful cat Karuna, this nightmare has become a reality. Before the sun rose on Nov. 24, a raging fire would decimate her home and everything she held dear.
‘Devil’ is captivating

Playing for the love of the game
As the women’s soccer team ends the season on a great note, there is one player who had the drive and determination to have the team make it as far as they did. Jamie Doyen, a 23-year-old Pierce student has been playing soccer since she was a child. “I have played soccer since I was five and competitive club soccer since I was 10 years old,” said Doyen in an e-mail interview.
