I just like to remember the simple days when music was a radio, a map was a Thomas Guide and a telephone was a telephone. Cell phones can be found anywhere and everywhere. No matter where you go, you will find people either talking or playing with his or her cell phone.

Compassion compels Pre-vet Club
Backpacks stuffed with clothing and toys are bound for the American Indian children attending Turtle Mountain Elementary School in North Dakota, as part of the Walking Shield American Indian Society, Saturday. Dr. Leland Shapiro, professor of animal science, and members of the pre-veterinary club have been collecting backpacks each year for the past 20 years.
District Web sites to be revamped
The nine colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District have been redesigning their Web sites to be more standardized and accessible, increasing functionality for all students and staff while maintaining individuality amongst the colleges. Utilizing OmniUpdate, a web content management service, the reconstruction of the Web sites will bring the same format to each LACCD college so that somebody browsing one college’s site will be able to access another college’s site in the same way.
Students flex their talents
Heads bobbed and fingers snapped as students were treated to music and poetry performed by their peers last Thursday night at the Freudian Sip Café. The cool temperatures surrounding the outdoor stage near the Sip were offset by the warm reception given to each performer.
Mall to aquire a fresh appeal
More than a dozen features and upgrades are planned for the campus mall, some which may provide a better opportunity to enjoy the scenery in between classes. The campus mall, the main walkway stretching from the Freudian Sip to Parking Lot 7 near the Mason Street entrance, will boast a multitude of additions intended to complement the grand opening of several new buildings currently in development.
Basketball massacres Victor Valley
Spectators and team members witnessed a one-sided game as Pierce College Women’s Basketball team humiliated Victor Valley College at the first game of the season with an upsetting score of 98 to 28. Brahmas started strong with a breaking stampede that shook and shattered the Rams’ defensive and offensive game plan, making Brahmas dominate the entire game from the beginning until that buzzer sound blew at the end of second-half.
Funk, blues and mandolin
Any band can have great musicians who pour their heart into the music. Any person can step on stage and play a tune. However, in order for a band to be remembered they must do one thing: Make you tap your feet. On Friday night, at the House of Blues on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, a band did just that.
