Pierce College students hailed and give thanks to the Agricultural Science Department after graduating from the Pre-Veterinary Science Program in spring of 2007 with the help of Dr. Leland Shapiro Six students were accepted into U.C. Extra 2 million dollars for part-time faculty members
Steve Musha AFT Luncheon 2-2-2-2 Adjunct faculty teaching in 12 to 15 hour disciplines will receive an additional 2 million dollars into their salary from the Los Angeles Community College District in the 2007-2008 semester. Carl Friedlander, president of local AFT 1521, gave the announcement as the principal speaker at the monthly chapter meeting for the Pierce Faculty Guild.

New CAOT professor teaches with a “rush”
Since Svetlana Holt was 5 years old, she assumed she would follow in her mother’s grandmother’s, aunts’ and grandfathers’ footsteps and teach. So she did. Education is very highly valued in her native country, Russia, so it is prestigious to work as a college instructor or researcher.

Pierce Snags a UCLA DistinguishedTeacher
Ramela Abbamontian is the new full-time art teacher at Pierce. Although she came to the campus last spring for one class, she is now a full-time instructor. Her classes this semester include Art History I and II, as well as Asian art history. After Abbamontian graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a bachelor’s degree in art history, her route to graduate school and teaching was somewhat serendipitous.
A Passion for swimming
A ‘Swim to Support Pierce Pool’ fundraiser Oct. 21, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. will be hosted by the Friends of Pierce Pool at the college pool. The funds will specifically be used for the maintenance of the pool, which according to Friends of Pierce Pool’s mission statement is a valuable asset to the college and surrounding community.
