New adjacent apartment complex nearing completion
The campus will have some new neighbors on the west edge of the farm a year from now and they will be moving into a 264-unit apartment complex with a seven-tier parking structure. Bella Vista III continues and completes the ambitious complex that began with the first stage, Bella Vista I, the Oxnard Street properties, connects with the next set of apartments, Bella Vista II, just south of Erwin Street and interlocks at the Erwin Street main entrance with the southern boundary of Bella Vista III.
Phase II: green thumbs up
The Botanical Garden on campus is hard to miss. Occupying a two-acre site, its many features include a marsh pond complete with water lilies, a large collection of cacti, succulents and different kinds of wildlife, juxtaposed against modern classrooms in the same way the farm is to the urban sprawl of the San Fernando Valley .
Flying high
The title of a feature article in this month’s SOARING magazine, “The Outlandish 1,,” seems more than fitting for its author, former Pierce College student George Constantin. While a student at Pierce in 1988, Constantin “buzzed” the campus in a single-engine private plane.
Q: Will the new Orange Line help you get to school easier?
“Instead of having stops, it’s a direct line. So it’s a good idea.” Michael Mahaffy, 51, undecided major “It saves a lot of gas.” Adrienne Dye, 18, nursing major “It’s faster than the regular bus.” Kye Edmondson, 21 “We get to school on time. Clean the *@!#ing restrooms, pretty please
With such horrible conditions in the women’s restrooms including up to one inch of water on floors at times, no toilet paper in the stalls and scratched-up mirrors, the question is, “Who is responsible?” Careless female students, custodians neglecting their duties, or the lack of funds enabling campus maintenance? Health concerns arise and just to see the football field in better condition than one of the most likely visited places during school hours is appalling to everyone who notices.
Astro-logic
In the beginning of time, the sky goddess Nut gave birth to life. She stretched herself over the sun, moon, stars and people of the Pharoah. Infamous for their wisdom of geometry, mathematics and astronomy-all being a basis for the 5,000-year-old Great Pyramid of Giza-one of ancient Egypt’s greatest feats was a lunar-based calendrical system.
Just Like Heaven
“Just like Heaven” is a true-to-form “chick flick” starring Mark Ruffalo and Reese Witherspoon. The story takes place in San Francisco and as predictable as it sounds, a young depressed landscaping architect named David (Ruffalo) moves into a “diamond in the ruff” apartment with one catch; the previous tenant Elizabeth (Witherspoon) refuses to move on.
Letters to the Editor
The Roundup’s recent article, entitled “Food services: not fit,” makes evident a dichotomy on this campus between those who like the new Freudian Sip’s coffee and packaged take-along bites and those who prefer the cafeteria’s freshly served stay-awhile delights.
Serving the way to glorious victory
Tension heightened in the third match of the Women’s Volleyball game against Moorpark College right before the Brahmas won the game 3-0 last Tuesday. The energy exhaled from the Brahmas was excitement as fans rushed off the bleachers to pat Head Coach Nabil Mardini on the back and shake his hand.
