While scouting the campus for the latest fashion trends, some picture worthy examples caught my eye. Several students allowed me to capture images of various aspects of their attire. Handmade backpack straps constructed out of two studded belts screamed: rebel.
Going the distance
Though most of the students enrolled in the Veterinary Technology Program on campus tend to be from the surrounding communities and did not have to travel far to get to school, three of the program’s senior students have come from afar in order to achieve their goals of becoming registered veterinary technicians (RVTs).
Big dreams lead small-town athlete
Wanting to leave her small town behind, Ashley Lugo packed her belongings and took one last look at Deltona, Fla. and its 83,000 residents. Three thousand miles later, in the San Fernando Valley with 20 times more people, she fearlessly unloaded her things.
Baseball beats Bakersfield back-to-back
The Pierce College baseball team continued their winning streak when they defeated Bakersfield College Thursday at home 7-6 and 7-5 on March 14. At Thursday’s game, Bakersfield lead 1-0 for the first two innings until Willie Cabrera, sophomore second baseman, hit a double that brought Andrew Tapia, freshman outfielder, home for Pierce’s first run of the game at the top of the third inning.
Intense drama captures Vets’ war-bruised hearts
“A Piece of My Heart,” a well-written and exquisitely performed anti-war Vietnam play, can be described in one word-intense. It is not for the faint of heart, with emotional strings attached to every descriptive word on a gray stage with few props to support the deep meaning of each line.
Vet on RVT staff
The Registered Veterinary Technology program at Pierce College has one new full-time employee “on staff” now, that means the staff is serving as both an instructor and a veterinarian for the farm animals. Rebecca A. Yates has begun to work as a full-time instructor and veterinarian for the RVT program at Pierce from this fall semester.
PCC looks at accreditation
Prof. Richard J. Follett led a workshop on accreditation Nov. 18 for the Pierce College Council (PCC). The purpose of the meeting was to self-evaluate how well the Council is currently working, if the PCC can function more effectively and to prepare for accreditation self-study.

ASO comes together for student voices, needs
The Associated Students Organization has been part of the Pierce College campus since the 1970s. The ASO bungalow has been the home to members since the beginning of its time. This academic year the officers are President Daniella Schwartz and Vice President Adam Willis along with Advisor Brad Saenz who has been involved since January 2004.
