Theater is a means to connect with other human beings at a universal level, according to Pierce College theater arts professor Valorie Grear. “You are a performer because you have something deep within you to touch people, to enable them to see the world in all new ways,” she said.

Supervisor whips up tasty environment
Linda Brown, a woman of few words but a multitasker,†began her 30-year career with the Los Angeles Community College District in 1975, while driving home one night from visiting her parents. She noticed someone on the radio was talking about different jobs available with the college district.
STD testing now free
Free screenings for chlamydia and gonorrhea are now being provided to students at the Health Center in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sexually Transmitted Disease Program. Instead of paying the usual $26, free screenings are available to students between the ages of 14 to 29.

Clarifications: The “Deans’ Tea and President’s List” insert in the March 8 edition of The Roundup contained the names of students who received qualifying grades during the Spring 2005 semester. The page 2 editorial in the March 15 issue of The Roundup indicated that professional models are hired by the college for the covers of the Pierce College catalog and schedule of classes.

Everybody should know that there is a time for work and a time for fun. Yet there always seems to be the same group of people lining the walkway of the mall in the most crucial time periods. Sometimes it can be very uncomfortable just walking past the coagulation of “students” making seemingly casual “discussions” amongst themselves.
ASO comes together for student voices, needs
The Associated Students Organization has been part of the Pierce College campus since the 1970s. The ASO bungalow has been the home to members since the beginning of its time. This academic year the officers are President Daniella Schwartz and Vice President Adam Willis along with Advisor Brad Saenz who has been involved since January 2004.

PCC looks at accreditation
Prof. Richard J. Follett led a workshop on accreditation Nov. 18 for the Pierce College Council (PCC). The purpose of the meeting was to self-evaluate how well the Council is currently working, if the PCC can function more effectively and to prepare for accreditation self-study.
Vet on RVT staff
The Registered Veterinary Technology program at Pierce College has one new full-time employee “on staff” now, that means the staff is serving as both an instructor and a veterinarian for the farm animals. Rebecca A. Yates has begun to work as a full-time instructor and veterinarian for the RVT program at Pierce from this fall semester.
