Celebrating ‘Don Quixote’
Heavy winds and cold temperatures were not enough to sway students along with members of the community from participating in Monday’s read-a-thon commemorating the 400th anniversary of Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes’ novel “Don Quixote.” The event took place on the campus mall in front of the library and was organized by Spanish professor Fernando Oleas.
Intense drama captures Vets’ war-bruised hearts
“A Piece of My Heart,” a well-written and exquisitely performed anti-war Vietnam play, can be described in one word-intense. It is not for the faint of heart, with emotional strings attached to every descriptive word on a gray stage with few props to support the deep meaning of each line.
Vietnam Vets to speak at ‘Piece of my Heart’ matinee
“A Piece of My Heart,” portrays the experiences of female nurses in Vietnam, a roundtable discussion will immediately follow the Saturday matinee performance featuring Vietnam veterans. Baseball beats Bakersfield back-to-back
The Pierce College baseball team continued their winning streak when they defeated Bakersfield College Thursday at home 7-6 and 7-5 on March 14. At Thursday’s game, Bakersfield lead 1-0 for the first two innings until Willie Cabrera, sophomore second baseman, hit a double that brought Andrew Tapia, freshman outfielder, home for Pierce’s first run of the game at the top of the third inning.
Big dreams lead small-town athlete

Latest musical-turned-movie
Based on Puccini’s opera “La Boheme” and Jonathan Larson’s revolutionary “rock” musical, “Rent” tells the story of a group of bohemians living in New York City’s East Village struggling to live life, pay the rent and deal with the AIDS epidemic. The story centers on Roger (Adam Pascal) and Mark (Anthony Rapp), two roommates.
After alcoholism: a new dad
Growing up with an alcoholic father didn’t exactly bring about the easiest childhood. The best way to describe being 8 years old and taking care of my 3-year-old brother is like walking on eggshells around my dad. One day it could be peaches and the next, disaster, with a slap to the face and a night in my room.
‘War is Over!’ IF YOU WANT IT
It’s the time of the year to celebrate life. “A very Merry Christmas. And a happy new year. Let’s hope its a good one, without any fear. War is over, if you want it.”- “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” by John Lennon. It sucks that the only time we talk about Lennon’s life is because of his death.
Audioslave: greater than sum of their pasts
It’s a tedious task these days to turn on the TV or rock radio and find a band that isn’t a clich√©d, fresh-out-of-high-school upstart. Lucky for rock enthusiasts everywhere, Audioslave is making their best music ever now without severing ties to their colorful pasts.
