The Los Angeles Community College District board of trustees welcomed the activist group California Public Interest Research Group [CalPIRG] onto its campuses, to advocate voting in college youth. “We help students develop a voice on public issues,” said Ben Unger a CalPIRG representative at the board meeting Feb.

Passion of the peach to cause grand fuzz
“James and the Giant Peach,” written by Roald Dahl, is the next big play directed by RosZa Horvath. The play is about James Trotter who once had a happy life, but that soon changed after his parents were killed by a rhinoceros. He was then sent to live with his two awful aunts in a house by an English seaside.
Join clubs, make a statement
Baha’i Faith Club, Christian Club and Helping Hands Club? What do the names mean to you? To me they mean places where one can go and share their thoughts and beliefs with others. Or a place where you can lend a helping hand to those in need. These are a few of the clubs on campus that many students may not be familiar with.

Last year another U.K. Hip Hop artist by the name of M.I.A. was getting all the buzz in the magazines and on stations like MTV2 because of her innovative sound that combined multiple genres. This year’s newest U.K. import that people are already and are going to be talking about is Lady Sovereign.
Theater prof wins Kennedy Center award
RoZsa Horvath, a Pierce College theater arts professor, was honored with an Excellence in Education award from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and didn’t even know it. “I opened my e-mail. That’s how I found out I had won the award,” said Horvath, recalling the moment.
Homer disentangles difficult game
Under the inclement sun the Brahmas beat Los Angeles Mission College 1-0 Saturday, thanks to Steve Notaro’s (14) home run in the third inning and climbed momentarily to the fist place in the Western State South Conference. “We had a fantastically well-pitched game today by both pitchers,” said coach Bob Lofrano.

A library is a place where students can go to do research, work on a paper or simply study in a quiet environment- except Saturdays at the Pierce College Library. But is Saturday not usually when students may be off school and work and choose to get their homework done? Not at the Pierce Library.
Industrial tech chair dies
Larry Humphrey, Industrial Technology (IT) Department Chairman, died Thursday evening at the Kaiser-Permanente Hospital in Woodland Hills after suffering a heart attack early Wednesday. Humphrey was an instructor at Pierce College for more than 20 years, and played a major role in securing funding for Pierce’s $2 million welding shop.
Center offers job help
The Job Center and the Cooperative Work Experience Education (CWEE) program have relocated to the new Village 8200 facility since the beginning of the current semester, offering one-stop assistance to members of the community who need employment placement.
Bookstore recovers from new Enterprise ventures
After having reared a sudden sequence of fledgling business ventures on campus, the Pierce College Bookstore is finally getting some peace and quiet as it recovers from an exhausting year. The last fiscal year, July 2005 to June 2006, brought with it a slew of expensive new undertakings-the Freudian Sip, CopyTech, the Equestrian Education Center and the Farm Store, to name a few.
