You always hear about how important it is to vote. It’s your right, nay, it’s your obligation as a citizen of this great country to participate in democracy. But voting is such a hassle. First, you have to register. Then, you have to buy a bigger mailbox to hold all the “information” you will be receiving from candidates, political action committees and other interested parties.

Web site, e-mail problems persist
The information technology department is embarking on the first stage of developing a strategic plan to address the issues that have long plagued the campus. Up to now, “things have been done in an ad hoc fashion,” said Mark Henderson, manager, college information systems.
Bomb squad detonates ‘suspicious’ package
A suspicious package became the focus of a bomb squad investigation Feb. 20 after an anonymous caller reported the object, located atop a parking permit meter, to campus sheriffs. Shortly before 7 p.m. deputies began to restrict access to the area of parking lot seven directly in front of the Child Development Center, which was closed at the time.
Classes, offices move into the future
Amidst a flurry of lumber litter and wet paint, the “Future Village” sits at the center of the largest-scale and most complex plan in recent Pierce College history. Estimated to span the course of five years and cost in the hundreds of millions of dollars, the Village project is at the very least an impressive undertaking.
Unique influences bleed through in art
In today’s fast-paced world it is difficult to find things that require us to observe thoroughly and apply conceptual thinking, but the artwork from five different artists featured in two concurrent exhibits at the Pierce College Art Gallery through March 8 accomplish that goal easily.

At the Jan. 24 Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees meeting, Associated Students Organization President Abraham White disclosed a program that would involve the renting of expensive textbooks. The program will provide the opportunity for students to rent the most expensive books by paying a small amount to use them for the entire semester.
Trustees election no sure thing
With four of seven seats on the L.A. Community College District (LACCD) board of trustees on the ballot this Tuesday, the battle for control in the country’s largest community college district is heating up. The Alliance for Education, a reform group headed by former trustee Pat Owens, is running a slate of four candidates against the four incumbents, and two independent candidates have joined the race for seat five on the board.
Not worth the money honey
On Gwen Stefani’s sophomore attempt of a solo career, “The Sweet Escape,” she fails to do anything except make the listener change the radio station. The charm and cutesy, bubble gum voice that Stefani sang her heart out with on her albums with No Doubt has suddenly become whiney and flat.
B-ball takes third in tournament
The Pierce College Women’s Basketball team finished third in the 2006 Rose City Classic Tournament in Pasadena last weekend. The Brahmas’ third place finish in the annual tournament was the best in the team’s history.
How to take back that ‘freshman 15’
It seems like everyone in college, at one time or another has heard of the dreaded “freshman 15.” Late study nights, new roommates, pizza parties and a school cafeteria later, everything we eat will eventually catch up with us, especially if the only example you have for exercise is walking back and forth from your car to class.
