With winter approaching a little too slowly to sunny California this year, Pierce College’s Fall semester is reaching an end and final examinations are knocking on the door. Finals mean good and bad news. Who wants to be at school way into the holiday season? Nobody.

New academic senate president to begin in February
Professor of industrial technology, Tom Rosdahl was elected by Pierce College faculty Monday as the new president of the Academic Senate. He defeated current president Izzy Goodman by one vote. The results of the election came in Monday at 9:15 a.m. and were announced at the same day’s Academic Senate meeting.
Students counseled to prepare for future
Too many college students take classes in college, which they later on find out will not help at all with their major. Too many of them do not know what their major is. A lot of the students want to apply to schools that do not offer the major they want to study.

How many of us can claim that we had a sow run after us all the way around the Pierce College farm because we stole her piglet? That was one of the most memorable incidents Marilyn Feldman,58, had about her college life at Pierce in 1957. “My friend and I were walking past the pig barn after class one day and saw that a sow was surrounded by her piglets,” said Feldman.
Lights, cameras, action… revenue!
A raucous Christian rock concert was the latest in Pierce College’s property rental for revenue. Although the concert was held under false pretenses, it added to the annual yearly outside revenue income of $300,000. “In general it has been very beneficial to the college to be able to capitalize on our resources in this way.
Faculty focuses on raising basic skills
One of the main issues discussed in the Pierce College Academic Senate meeting Nov.20 was the fact that the school needs to work harder to improve the basic skills of all students attending this college. Improving basic skills would help students achieve the academic and life goals they have in mind when they attend college.

You could be at risk of contracting Hepatitis C, a viral infection that causes serious damage to the lungs, if you have recently pierced any part of your body, shared body jewelry, been sexually active, shared needles while “shooting” drugs or simply gone to your workplace, depending on where you work.

According to district officials, The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) plans to become the first community college district in the nation to generate all its own electricity. A Oct.17 press release said LACCD, the nation’s largest community college district, announced a precedent-setting plan to produce enough of its own electricity to take its nine campuses “off the power grid.
