History, English, mathematics, and science are all required courses to be passed in our kindergarten through 12th grades in the United States. In many other counties across the world, one other subject is also weighed as equally important, geography. Some of these countries, many Americans may not even be able to locate on a globe.
Cleanliness seems to be a priority everywhere these days, so why has Pierce College been left in the dust? According to Plant Facilities Director Paul Nieman, 21 custodians are on campus every morning to make sure our campus and classrooms are maintained.
Audiences did not want to see the update of the 1970s Neil Simon comedy “The Heartbreak Kid,” although it was hilarious. Ben Stiller and the Farrelly brothers (Bobby and Peter) could not rekindle the flame in the anticipated comedy from their last smash hit “There’s Something About Mary.
On the evening of Oct. 2, Pierce College Student Success Committee and Creative Voices presented “An Evening with Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio” on the Performing Arts Mainstage. The affair opened up with a dazzling series of clips from Elliott and Rossio’s co-written movies, such as “Shrek,” “Aladdin,” “The Mask of Zorro” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy.
In a world of possibilities where anything in a relationship could go wrong, all of them do for Bradley Thomas (Greg Kinnear) in “Feast of Love.” Bradley jumps from one bad relationship to the next, until he decides to enlist the help of his friend Harry Stevenson (Morgan Freeman).
The John Hammond Jazz Quartet performed Thursday afternoon as part of a free concert offered at the Performing Arts Mainstage. Pictured (L-R) are Ron Eschete, Kandall Kay, John Hammond and Jim Hughart. The performances will continue free of charge, every Thursday at 12:45 until otherwise noted.
With 427 acres to cover and more than 20,000 students to clean up after, keeping Pierce College clean is no easy feat. “English classes and math classes are the ones that need the most upkeep. They’re totally packed,” said student Jessica Forrest. Other students mentioned the scuffed and dirty walls, out-of-date and curling papers on bulletin boards all over the campus, greasy keyboards and computer mice, and the contrast between the cleanliness of this campus and Santa Monica and Moorpark colleges.
While many students may think that the health fee tacked onto the cost of registration merely covers headaches and paper cuts, they may be surprised to know that their $11 health fee includes access to a full staff of personal counselors. By utilizing both the Student Health Center and the personal counselors in the Counselor’s Office, students can receive expert counseling advice at no additional cost, thanks to the health fee that is already paid for every semester.
For the second presentation of the Fall 2007 Professors’ Lecture series, presented by ENCORE, an adult education program. Maestro James Domine took to the stage and conducted an exciting lesson on the subject “The Development of Opera” to a capacity crowd Thursday.
Usually the only way that students could commend or complain about an instructor was through the formal paper teacher evaluations that get passed out at the end of every semester. Now, however, students are turning to a popular ratings Web site, RateMyProfessor.
