At the beginning of every semester Pierce College looks like the hottest hangout in town, considering that both the Winnetka and Mason Avenue parking lots are overflowing. It goes to show how many students are interested in taking classes at our dear school.
What happened? We may never know. It was the best basketball season Pierce College had in decades, with both the men’s and women’s teams heading to the state playoffs and probably going deep in the bracket. Instead, they were both forced to forfeit all but one of their games because of eligibility forms that were not correctly sent to the Commission on Athletics (COA) in Sacramento.
The results are in! Following the March 6 election, Sylvia Scott-Hayes, Mona Field and Warren Furutani have successfully retained their seats on the L.A. Community College District (LACCD) board of trustees. But Georgia Mercer, newly-appointed LACCD board president and the incumbent to Seat Five, must face opponent Roy Burns in a run-off election scheduled for May 15, 2007.

Thornton Wilder’s fast-paced and high-energy classic comedy, “The Matchmaker,” debuts March 23 in the Pierce College Performing Arts Mainstage Theatre. Directed by Gene Putnam, an 18-year Pierce professor of theatre arts, this comedy farce should send its viewers off laughing as 17 cast members take them on a romantic journey.
Humberto “Bert” Sanchez, 59, associate professor of business administration, died Friday at Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks of unknown causes. “It’s pretty grim,” said Professor David Braun, business department chair. “There are a lot of sad, sad people around here.
The race for the White House is more than a year a year and a half away, but contenders are already off and running. Candidates seem to be everywhere-proposing legislation in the House and Senate, releasing daily statements about their opinions on pretty much everything, even making visits to states with big influence in the primaries like California.
El Rancho Drive, also known as the Farm Road, will soon be undergoing construction as part of the continuing campus renovations. Bidding for the construction took place March 6. A construction company will be chosen to replace the previous company that had protested against plans.
Muscular warriors, cutting-edge cinematography and ‘Matrix’ like combat scenes make “300” a movie that both guys and girls will love to watch. The much anticipated “300”, which is based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller (Sin City), depicts the ancient Battle of Thermopylae where 300 Spartans fought bravely against a huge Persian army.
As the flowers begin to bloom and springtime brings beautiful weather, Pierce College dancers will also contribute with an event that will make everyone appreciate new beginnings. The Annual Spring Dance Concert an opportunity that is brought back every year for everyone to experience a different type of art.
