In today’s fast-paced world it is difficult to find things that require us to observe thoroughly and apply conceptual thinking, but the artwork from five different artists featured in two concurrent exhibits at the Pierce College Art Gallery through March 8 accomplish that goal easily.
The information technology department is embarking on the first stage of developing a strategic plan to address the issues that have long plagued the campus. Up to now, “things have been done in an ad hoc fashion,” said Mark Henderson, manager, college information systems.
You always hear about how important it is to vote. It’s your right, nay, it’s your obligation as a citizen of this great country to participate in democracy. But voting is such a hassle. First, you have to register. Then, you have to buy a bigger mailbox to hold all the “information” you will be receiving from candidates, political action committees and other interested parties.

There are countless problems when it comes to using any high technology on this campus. In the past two months, several dramatic and important technological changes have occurred on campus and the Information Technology (IT) department has failed to meet the needs of these changes, causing big problems.

That’s the main reason why I decided to try something new. The ate18 caf√© was the perfect adjustment to the boring and repetitive places in the valley to eat.
Fans of Stephen King’s “Dark Tower” series now has a chance to delve deeper into the inner workings of Mid-World with the recent release of the graphic novel, “The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born.” The prequel series distributed by Marvel Comics, tells the story of the Gunslinger (as a boy) and the strange and unusual hybrid setting between western and fantasy world he inhabits.
Clerical errors caused Pierce College to forfeit all but one of the games won by both the men’s and women’s basketball teams this season. This was the first time in 17 years that the women’s team would have qualified for the state championships. The men’s team was ranked number two in the state and would have been a strong contender in their playoffs also.
With the death of legendary tennis coach Paul Xanthos in June 2006, the Pierce College tennis coaches have some big shoes to fill. Xanthos, who died at age 85, worked as head coach of the men’s tennis team for 30 years. He brought Pierce a 550-94 win/loss record and 23 conference championships.
Elise Clifford, first director secretary and one of the founding members of Pierce College, has died. She was 92. Before it became what it is today, Pierce started off in 1947 as an agricultural school specified only for boys. Even though some modern necessities were missing, the students and staff started off on the right foot and were eager to begin their first days at the new college.
Endometriosis: A disease with no cure. Five million women were diagnosed but no cure was found. Have you heard of endometriosis? Although five million women in the United States suffer from this disease scientists have yet to develop a cure. Most women have never even heard the term.
