Pieces of art that transcend any age gap were on display at the campus gallery by Encore/Oasis students Saturday. Nude portraits, a tribute to American painter Georgia O’Keeffe and an abstract sculpture made out of material called “gatorboard” were among the many styles featured, each with its own distinct persona and feeling.

Common sayings like, “true beauty is on the inside” and “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” are true for the Theater Departments latest production, “The Elephant Man,” set to premiere this Friday. The play, based on a true story, will premier at 8 p.m.
Latinos with a Purpose, an Associated Students Organization club at Pierce College, recently changed its name to Refuge. With a mission statement, “to promote our Latino culture and share our Christian faith,” they have decided to rename themselves to include everyone at Pierce.
New Leash on Life, a non-profit animal rescue organization, held its Nuts for Mutts 5K dog walk fundraiser at Shepard Stadium Sunday. Founded in 1997 by Bobby Dorafshar, the idea came while working as a volunteer for the City of Los Angeles Animal Services.

It is a trying time right now for America’s hospitals and in the eyes of many, they are falling apart. According to a CBS news report in January of 2003, American hospitals are in a serious crisis due to the severe and dangerous shortage of nurses, a shortage that can best be summed up by the fact that there are now over 120,000 open positions for registered nurses nationwide.
I came across a quote emblazoned on the front of a T-shirt recently that read: “College. The best 7 years of my life.” To add insult to injury was the drawing of an overly gleeful middle-aged man accompanying the impertinent line. But if you’re like me, this quote, however relatable and sometimes embarrassing, is completely true.

Starting this semester, the Associate Student’s Organization (ASO) will be re-establishing its judicial branch, the student court. The student court has not been in session for more than 4 years. “The court would be there to decide how to moderate student issues and grievances,” said ASO president Abraham White.
