Jamming in the cafeteria is nothing new to this Pierce College band without a name. “For our name we want something that has kind of a blues feel…something with trains. Trains have kind of a working class feel, and a blues kind of feel, but it’s also something that’s going somewhere,” says Beth Nordeen, 33, who plays rhythm guitar.
College life is hard. It’s amazing how noticeably different life is when you are not in high school anymore. Part-time and full-time jobs, responsibilities of college life and so much more seem to barge in. At times it becomes almost impossible to cope.
Opinions are like belly buttons; everybody’s got one. One in five college women have been raped, according to the Sexual Victimization of College Women Survey. Legislation was passed this year to attempt to protect California college age women. Sacramento passed the “Mandatory Orientation: Sexual Violence Prevention Act” this year, requiring California colleges to “implement written protocols to ensure that students, faculty, and staff who are victims of sexual assault… receive treatment and information.
A petting zoo, Tai the elephant, rock climbing, carnival rides and even a pee-wee circus training tent filled the normally quiet Shepard Stadium Sunday with foster children and their mentors taking advantage of the overcast day to bond over a little bit of fun as part of the annual Day of the Child event.
As the fall semester drops its last leaf and comes to an end, spring semester approaches with a new class plan. The official end date of the fall semester at Pierce College is Dec. 21, which for some students can mean winter break or winter session. As for the spring semester, which begins Feb.

With approximately nine weeks remaining in the current semester, students can begin planning for the five-week winter intersession that will begin on Jan. 2, 2007 to Feb. 3, 2007 at Pierce College. The schedule of classes will be available to students Nov.
Why are so many full and part-time workers, provisional workers and student workers at Pierce and all around the LACCD not getting paid on a regular basis? Over the past two weeks, The Roundup staff has heard a variety of stories from workers being overpaid, underpaid or not paid at all.
