Growing with experience
While our campus undergoes a methodical transformation, it’s only fitting that the Brahmas’ baseball team has followed suit. Last year’s team saw four players drafted by Major League ball clubs: Dan Berlind (Minnesota Twins), David Fonseca (Milwaukee Brewers), Dan Heller (Baltimore Orioles) and Travis Turek (Cleveland Indians).
Learning while Playing
Laughing and giggling voices echo from the Child Development Center and through the north portion of the Pierce College campus. It is a great place to have a fun time learning – not only for children, but also Pierce students who need special skills for child care.
DocFestival wraps with ‘Sicko’ and awards
It was the final day of the DocFestival at Pierce College, where students piled into the Student Community Center to watch one of the screenings of the featured movie, “Arlington West.” The three-day DocFestival, during which a panel of professors offered their opinions on documentaries to an open audience, was sponsored by the Pierce Diversity Committee and Associated Students Organization.
Library hours need revision
TOPIC | Pierce College library hours OUR VIEW | Create an independent study hall that opens earlier than the library. Every weekday morning, the Pierce College library is the last in the district to open its doors. Six of the nine college libraries even operate on Saturday.
ASO goes to Sacramento
Along with being hit hard by vast budget cuts, the California Community Colleges have not been receiving their full percentage of state funding. For this reason, the Pierce College Associated Students Organization will be sending 10 of their members to Sacramento to meet with legislators and voice their concerns.
Banquet for teachers today
The red carpet rolls out today for Pierce College teachers attending the Teachers Appreciation Banquet, which will take place in the Student Community Center from noon to 2 p.m. The banquet is being put on by Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS), an honor society branching from a statewide organization of community college societies that promotes academic excellence, leadership and service for the student body of Pierce.
Swimmers’ Secret Weapon: Training
“To left to left, to right to left to left, One, Ready go!” yelled out Judith Terhar, assistant coach for Pierce College swimming team. The swimmers’ hands, raised in formation, line the pool. Head coach Fred Shaw explained that their techniques are a different aspect of training, part of it which teaches people to stroke efficiently and strongly so they can go their fastest.
