Millions of dollars in grant money has been awarded to Pierce College recently, including $2,038,306 to help fund online course development and $359,757 for the Pierce Early Childhood Education (PECE) program. More than $189,135 was awarded across numerous other grants, most of which were submitted early in the year and approved in August and September.

After winning their seventh Western State Conference title and first-round match in this year’s Regionals tournament, the Pierce College women’s volleyball team members’ season is at an end after losing to Fullerton College over the weekend, 3-1. The Lady Brahmas of volleyball began their Regionals matches Tuesday Nov.

Students enrolled in a Cal State University may find themselves doing a double-take when they go to pay their fees next year. If a proposed fee increase passes as expected, students will be required to pay an extra $277 than the cost of a semester this year because of a proposed second increase in the mandatory State University Fee in just two years.

Several important decisions were made November 5th to the 10th that will affect students and faculty in the upcoming spring, summer and fall of 2008 semesters. The Academic Senate elections voted in seven people to represent full-time and part-time faculty at Pierce College .

From pizza and chips to soups and lattes, the variety of food offered at Pierce College is incredible! When I was asked to write an opinion story on the food offered on campus and if fast food should be available, I was excited. Although I have never considered myself to be a health freak, eating well is a part of my every day life.
Pierce College Gives Out Free Hugs
Joy and hope spread through the hallways as the Sociology Club gave out free hugs to students and faculty as a random act of kindness Nov. 14 at the Pierce College mall in front of the financial aid office. The Sociology Club’s ‘Free Hugs’ event is a not a solo act, but a byproduct of a campaign that started in 2004.
Blood drive
The American Red Cross and the Pierce College ASO partnered up to give students and volunteers the opportunity to save the lives of many Californians. The Pierce blood drive was held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 20 and 21, and gave participants a chance to win a $500 cash prize.

The Pierce College Academic Senate gathered on November 19 to discuss a multitude of topics concerning the campus and its students. With the many topics discussed at the meeting, student e-mail addresses’ was amongst the most talked about by the teachers on the senate.
