The air erupts with electricity. Shouts echo from every direction, machine gun fire drowning out any hope of understanding them. The bolts of plasma fire cut through the tree line ahead, leaving scorch marks in their wake. Dashing, I duck as a grenade explodes in a deafening thunder next to me; sending dirt and debris across my vision.

The sun couldn’t have been brighter for the Pierce College Women’s soccer team on Sept. 25. The Brahmas hosted Valley College, at The Pit, dismissed them with a 6-0 shut out win to start the Western State Conference tournament. “It was the best game of the year,” said Brahma coach Adolfo Perez of his team’s 10th game of the 2007 season.

1300 foster children are expected to gather at Pierce College on Sunday, Oct. 14 to participate in Day of the Child. Day of the Child is an event sponsored by Children Uniting Nations to raise awareness of homeless and foster children in the L.A. County area.

Once a year Pierce hold a carnival unbeknownst to the general public. Food, games, music, activities, it’s all free; but few children have had a chance to attend. This is an event for children who don’t have the opportunity to go to an event like this whenever they please; an event for the foster children of the Los Angeles County.
