Missing wonder and glory, “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” is no match to its prequel. The film is based on a book by the same title from a series of books by C.S. Lewis. It has been a year since the Pevensie siblings, Lucy (Georgie Henley), Edmund (Skandar Keynes), Peter (William Moseley) and Susan (Anna Popplewell) had their adventures in Narnia.

Texting and instant messaging becoming the new cell phone norms
There is no need for a person to ask for somebody’s seven digits anymore; they can just ask for a person’s screen name to instant message them. Screen names like Sxygirly415 are more intriguing than a set of numbers, maybe that’s why there’s no need to make calls to one another.
New album, new Death Cab
With the highly anticipated May 12 release of their latest album, “Narrow Stairs,” Death Cab for Cutie showed their fans a different but pleasant side to their usual indie-rock albums. Their previous 2006 album, “Plans,” showed off their mellow side, mostly singing about their encounters with love.
Can Lakers end L.A.’s losing streak?
It’s been too long since Los Angeles sports fans had a reason to celebrate. Our Dodgers haven’t sniffed the playoffs since 2006 when they were dismantled and swept by the New York Mets. L.A.’s only powerhouse college football team, USC, failed to win it all for the third year in a row.
Swimming wrap up
Pierce College swimmer Christina Courtney, 20, suffered an injury in her right shoulder during the swim event at the State Championships at Saddleback College. Courtney qualified to swim for the State Championships, but she had not completed two events and came back home early, according to head coach Fred Shaw.
Child Development Club
The new Child Development Club met Thursday afternoon to discuss the Pathways in Early Childhood Education (PECE) program, as well as to participate in a resume workshop given by Stacey Longmore, Pierce College Child Development professor. Ninety members make up the Child Development Club.
Unprofitable financial aid suspended
Community college students may find it harder to obtain loans because two lenders, CitiBank and J.P. Morgan Chase, have temporarily suspended certification of federal Stafford loans to community college students nationwide, according to the American Chronicle.
Year in Review
MANURE TEAM COMPETES IN WASHINGTON, D.C. The Pierce College manure team, led by environmental sciences professor Craig Meyer, traveled to the nation’s capital this semester to compete for the first time in the annual People, Prosperity and the Planet competition conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency.
President’s Honors List Reception
More than 100 students were honored and recognized for academic achievement at the President’s Honors List Reception May 13. The Music Quad was filled with smiles and families as the honorees received medals for making the Dean’s List three consecutive times, achieved by maintaining a 3.
ASO barbecue today
Summer starts early with the Associated Students Organization barbecue today, taking place from 2 to 4 p.m. in front of their new building near the business office. The event will feature free food, music, a pie eating contest and other games – including a Nintendo Wii tournament – which is to be held indoors in the newly completed Great Hall of the ASO building.
