Cross country athletes pass out

At least two students passed out during a city wide cross-country track meet involving many local high schools at the Pierce College campus.

Paramedics and the fire department arrived at approximately 4:15 p.m. at Pierce, Monday, Oct. 17.

Cristian Feuntes, 17, from Reseda High School, passed out briefly during the cross-country run from a heat-related illness as temperatures reached a high of 82 degrees with no wind, Monday.

The meet was held behind Shepard Stadium, which is currently under construction.

This not the first time this has happened.

On Sept. 30, 2010, 10 people were hospitalized at a high school track meet hosted by Pierce.

During the meet, which involved many area schools, more than 45 firefighters and eight ambulances were called in, according to the Southwest Riverside News Network.
