Reddock appointed LACCD trustee

The Los Angeles Community College District board of trustees has appointed attorney Angela J. Reddock, of Westchester, to fill the vacant trustee seat that has existed since the February resignation of President Michael Waxman.

Reddock will complete Waxman’s four-year term, which ends June 30, 2009. She will be sworn in during the April 25 board meeting at Southwest College.

“We were really very impressed with the quality of applicants across the board,” said trustee Warren Furutani. “I’m surprised we were able to come together so quickly around one candidate.”

“Reddock brings unique contacts, outreach and abilities to the board,” said current Board President Georgia Mercer.

“She has a well-rounded background, including a previous run for political office,” Mercer said, in reference to Reddock’s candidacy for District 11 of the L.A. City Council in ’04-’05.

Reddock is currently a partner in the firm of Carroll, Burdick & McDonough, LLP. She also serves on the L.A. City board of transportation commissioners, the L.A. City and County Civil Services commissions and the L.A. County Government Services Commission, and is the chair of the board of directors for the L.A. African American Women’s Public Policy Institute, among others.

“Serving on the community college board is a continuum of my civic activities to date,” Reddock said.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity, since community colleges in particular play such a great role in helping individuals to pursue a higher education and better take care of themselves and their families.”

In a news release from the district announcing her appointment, Reddock added, “I am joining the board at a very exciting time for the district. The board recently approved a five-year strategic plan that focuses on very critical issues for the district: improving community access; creating community partnerships; and raising the standards of education for our students.”
