Auditions for students interested in showing off their “groovin’ skills” in the Children’s Dance Theater will be Sunday at 9 a.m. in the North Gym, room 5601.

Marian S. Weiser, who went by the name Scriffin when she danced, is anticipating the upcoming auditions for all styles of dance, ranging from ballet, improve and tap to jazz, modern dance and hip hop.

A week later on March 26, Weiser will be looking for people of all ages for the Children’s Dance Theater performance that will be on May 20 at 2 p.m.. Small children as young as two-years-old can audition as well as adults.

“There’s something for everyone . . . as long as they can move” said Weiser.

Weiser who has been dancing for “a very very long time” said that her dancers will rehearse every Sunday including Mother’s Day and Spring Break. The only Sunday off for leisure will be Easter Sunday, April 16.

Small children who are interested in earning college credit should look into community extension.

Those who are 10-years-old and older can earn college credit through Pierce College.

Some of the young children will be dancing to Hap Palmer, who is a composer of children’s music and performer.

Beverly Polcyn, a choreographer, will take the stage with Palmer, “they literally bring down the house,” said Weiser who has known Palmer for at least 20 years.

Jenny Johnson, who is a former Pierce student, will bring some of her students from Wilbur Avenue Elementary school to participate in the Children’s Dance Theatre.

Walter Moran, who is also a former Pierce student and teaches at Sutter Junior High School, will have his students performing.

Sandra Allman, who is a night folk dance instructor at Pierce, choreographer and elementary education teacher, will include her students in this performance as well.

Theatre major, Kabrina Feichert, will be making all the costumes for the performance. She also made the costumes for the fall concert, last year.

The reason the Dance Theater can put on these productions is because of the Dance Club.

Dance Club members like Traci McElderry, who is the president of the Dance Club and Joyce Okorie who is the treasurer helps get the performances on stage.

“The officers are the hardest working people I have ever worked with and that’s a fact,” said Weiser.

The Dance Club funds the performances like, the Children’s Theater.

“As you can see we are a big family” said Weiser commenting on former students returning to Pierce and the help she gets from current students.
