Thicke elevates to a million

Listening to the falsetto tones and wide range of Robin Thicke’s voice is the sweetest ear candy. The sultry R&B sounds carry a neo-soul flavor and are reminiscent of the late Marvin Gaye and Brian McKnight.

If Thicke’s last name sounds familiar that’s because father Alan Thicke played Jason Seaver on the mid-80s hit television series “Growing Pains” and also sang the theme song to the show. His mother is vocalist Gloria Loring.

Teaching himself how to play the piano at the age of 12 was only one of his first accomplishments. At 14, he knew how to play by ear and by the time he was 16, without any actual training, he was writing and producing for a variety of well-known artists, Mary J. Blige, Michael Jackson and Christina Aguilera to name a few.

He released his first album in 2003 entitled “A Beautiful World” which only went on to sell 59,000 copies domestically but received high critic acclaim.

In 2005, he signed with Star Trak, the record label owned by The Neptunes under Interscope Records. His first single, released in 2006 entitled “Wanna Love You Girl” received radio play in the United States and made the charts in the United Kingdom.

On Oct. 3, 2006, “The Evolution of Robin Thicke” was released in stores. It was re-released in early 2007 as a deluxe edition including three bonus tracks, which allowed him to receive additional publicity and to generate more promotions.

The second single “Lost Without You,” has climbed to number one on the R&B charts, making Thicke the first white male to earn that honor since George Michael.

The music video for “Lost Without You” has been in full rotation and still remains one of the most popular videos on MTV, BET and VH1 this year and features actress and wife Paula Patton.

Most of the songs on the album are ballads and have a sexy ambiance. The Spanish guitar used in “Teach U A Lesson” is flawless in arrangement and flows beautifully with the tender sound of Thicke’s amazing voice.

“Got 2 Be Down” featuring Faith Evans, carries a shocking resemblance to Gaye. According to Thicke’s Web site, www.robinthicke.com, the next song to and video to be released is “Can you believe.” The album also features hit maker Pharrell Williams and rapper Lil Wayne.

Earlier this month, Thicke received his first Platinum Record Award. It has been six months since the release of this album and sales are still going strong. This is proof that the album is well worth listening to.

Catch a peek of Thicke who will appear as a guest on “American Idol” May 2 and according to the Internet, has recently been scheduled as an opening act for Beyonce’s North American tour.
