Growing up with an alcoholic father didn’t exactly bring about the easiest childhood. The best way to describe being 8 years old and taking care of my 3-year-old brother is like walking on eggshells around my dad. One day it could be peaches and the next, disaster, with a slap to the face and a night in my room.

Vietnam Vets to speak at ‘Piece of my Heart’ matinee
“A Piece of My Heart,” portrays the experiences of female nurses in Vietnam, a roundtable discussion will immediately follow the Saturday matinee performance featuring Vietnam veterans. The discussion is free and open to the public and hopes to answer questions people may have about what life was like in war-torn Vietnam.
Celebrating ‘Don Quixote’
Heavy winds and cold temperatures were not enough to sway students along with members of the community from participating in Monday’s read-a-thon commemorating the 400th anniversary of Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes’ novel “Don Quixote.” The event took place on the campus mall in front of the library and was organized by Spanish professor Fernando Oleas.

Clarifications: The “Deans’ Tea and President’s List” insert in the March 8 edition of The Roundup contained the names of students who received qualifying grades during the Spring 2005 semester. The page 2 editorial in the March 15 issue of The Roundup indicated that professional models are hired by the college for the covers of the Pierce College catalog and schedule of classes.
Quiet response to Virginia Tech tragedy
With the recent Virginia Tech tragedy, Pierce College students are concerned about their safety. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University student and English major Cho Seung-Hui, killed 32 people in two locations on campus before shooting himself in the head April 16.
New station: bigger and better
The new Pierce College Sheriff’s Station is up and running in a facility that will accommodate personnel of the force on campus. The new station is located between the Men’s Gym and the tennis courts and was roughly completed last week. “We expect a vast improvement with this new location,” said Sgt.

Shepard Stadium flourished with four-legged success stories on Sunday, when approximately 8,000 pooches and their people weathered mild rain for a canine celebration. The 6th annual Nuts for Mutts was coordinated by New Leash on Life, a no-kill, nonprofit animal shelter primarily for dogs based in Newhall.
