The matches against Glendale Community College (GCC), March 2, were quite a disappointment for the Pierce College tennis team, having had lost eight matches out of nine with a combined score for the singles’ and doubles’, 8-1, GCC took home the win. The only victory came from the doubles’ play of Steven Caswell and Tim Perez from Pierce defeating Norik Otuzbiryan and Darek Mardirosian from GCC, 9-7.

Beer Review: Best of Ireland
Ah, beer! The warm happy feeling children get for Christmas is here for the beer lover’s holiday: Saint Patrick’s Day. Although some people save the beer indulging festivities for this one day a year, I try to get a head start and keep the ball rolling afterward.
Kadima String Quartet sets romantic mood
The Pierce Auditorium filled with eager people all looking and stumbling for their correct seats. Families gathering with friends all waited to see and hear the same thing, the Kadima String Quartet and Friends. The room quieted as the lights dimmed and two violinists, one viola, and one cello player walked to the center of the stage and sat down.
Symphony gets high praise
It was nearly a full house, as elegant renditions of the works of Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Schubert filled the main stage of the Pierce College Performing Arts Building on Saturday evening. The majority of the audience seemed to be senior citizens.
Mallory’s guide to the galaxy? Don’t panic
Helping her students understand how they belong to the immense universe is Carolyn Mallory’s goal. A professor and faculty adviser for the astronomy department, Mallory has been teaching at Pierce College for four years. She is passionate towards making her students recognize that astronomy lies within them.
Driving has never been this funny
Leroy Thomas III wants students to learn when they take his class, but it won’t help them toward a degree. Leroy Thomas teaches traffic school. Thomas’ class runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every other Saturday on the Pierce College campus in bungalow 391 and its 20 seats are usually all full.
History prof gets into character
Wearing bed sheets and playing an ancient Roman, standing on the podium pretending to be the Greek god Zeus are among Eugene Larson’s many techniques to help make his students understand history better. Larson, chair of history and humanities department and history professor, has spent 36 years teaching at Pierce.
Letter from the new football coach
I, Kevin Mooore, would like to thank Pierce College for the opportunity to lead the rebuilding process for our Pierce College Football Program. I have more than 10 years of coaching experience at the high school level, one year at the junior collge level as defensive coordinator for the 2004 Pierce squad which produced 10 Division I scholorships and four players that competed in major bowl games this past season.

HIV/AIDS awareness
“People are not getting tested and there’s a lot more people out there who are sexually active who probably should be tested,” said Beth Benne, R.N., director of the student health center, of the need for HIV testing. As such, students can receive free and anonymous HIV testing at the Health Center during Pierce College’s biannual AIDS/HIV awareness week.
