Top 10 classes dropped

As students, most of us have dropped a class for one reason or another.

The particulars involved in deciding to drop vary for all students.

Therefore, for the sake of public interest, thanks to data provided by the Los Angeles Pierce College Office of Institutional Research, here are the top 10 dropped courses at Pierce College.

“Drops” include all students who dropped class as of Feb. 6, to present. All active enrollments are as of May 5.

10) English 21, Drops 231. Active enrollment 577.

Caution: ethnocentric remark to follow.

The fundamentals of English are surprisingly on the list, but perhaps most of the students who dropped could not read the directions to get to the class.

9) Business 1, Drops 231. Active enrollment 343.

An introduction to business, a possible reason for dropping student got in touch with a truer sense of who they really are.

As a result, they realized that greed, money and power are not the only things in life.

And in order to be at peace with the universe they had to give up their megalomaniac endeavors.

On the other hand, it could have just been boring.

8) History 1, Drops 237. Active enrollment 463.

Possible reason for student dropping, decided to follow in the footsteps of the current U.S. administration and not learn from past mistakes.

After all, who needs historical analogies when all you need is a “C” average.

7) Speech 101, Drops 277. Active enrollment 699.

Well…I…because…Forget it.

I am too embarrassed to go on.

6) Political Science 1, Drops 279. Active enrollment 701.

Subject: the government of the United States of America. Reason for dropping: They were commies.

5) English 28, Drops 375. Active enrollment 905.

Intermediate reading and comprehension is the course outline.

Possible reason for students dropping the course didn’t understand the syllabus.

4) English 101, Drops 390. Active enrollment 855.

Possible reasons for students dropping include the essays, the essays, the essays.

3) Math 115, Drops 412. Active enrollment 706.

Couldn’t calculate the time needed to finish homework.

2) Math 125, Drops 446. Active enrollment 877.

Reasons for students dropping may have included an irrational fear of Math 227 and Math 238.

1) Psychology 1, Drops 450. Active enrollment 950.

Couldn’t make it–had a date with my mom.

Now granted, the reasons stated above to explain the rationalization of students when coming to the decision to drop are completely in jest.

Nevertheless, behind every joke, comic story or gag is a hint of the truth.
