Baseball: League champs, departing coach

The baseball team ended their season after losing a decisive third game of a three game series to Riverside Community College in the first round of the Western State Conference playoffs hosted by Pierce College Saturday.

The end of the season comes in bittersweet fashion as Bob Lofrano, in his final season as head coach, received the Coach of the Year Award for the WSC South Division, leading the Brahmas to a regular season division championship with a record of (29-17).

Dan Heller was named WSC South Division Player of the Year and finished the season with a batting average of .394, 35 RBIs, eight doubles, two triples, four home runs and struck out only 11 times in 104 at-bats.

Freshman Dan Berlind took home WSC South Division Pitcher of the Year honors recording eight wins with an ERA of 3.05 and struck out 77 batters in 59 innings.

Pitcher Ryan Platt also gave Pierce great performances throughout the season, finishing the year with a perfect 7-0 record and boasting a team-leading 1.53 ERA alongside 80 strikeouts.
