$$Pierce College women’s soccer teams takes no bull

The Pierce College women’s soccer team, now 3-1-2, remains undefeated, ending their second home game with a score of 2-2 against rival Moorpark women’s soccer team Tuesday.

The two teams came to the field ready and focused to play hard. The unexpected occurred when Megan Moreno (8), Moorpark’s team captain, sustained an compound fracture to her ankle during a tackle in the first half, leaving the team to carry on without her.

After a 40 minute delay due to paramedics’ presence on the field, the Pierce soccer team came back strong against the 5-0 Moorpark, with midfielder Lindsay Liggera (9) scoring a direct free kick in the thirtieth minute of the first half. The streak continued, with the second goal scored by Mia Swafford (7) during the fifty-sixth minute of the second half, ending the game 2-2.

“It should be a great season,” said Swafford, whose goal is to work hard and help the team on defense and support.

Adolfo Perez, head coach of the Pierce College women’s soccer team, was pleased with the team’s overall performance against Moorpark, considering the team had only one day of rest after winning the Victory Valley Tournament in early September. Coach Perez’s goal for the team is for them to become organized in order to excel to the state championships.

Eric Privat, head coach of the Moorpark women’s soccer team was pleased with Moorpark’s performance, but hopes to improve their pressure and prepare his team for different styles and highly intense physical play such as that delivered by the Pierce College women’s soccer team. The game was “eye opening for the freshmen,” said Privat.

The next game for the Pierce College women’s soccer team will be a home game on Friday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. against Antelope Valley College.
