Goodman Wins Professor Of The Year Award

This past April the faculty at Pierce College had their annual nominations for this year’s Professor of the Year award, one of those nominated was Professor Isidore “Izzy” Goodman.

Towards week of April, it was announced that he was the winner of this pretigious award. Goodman, who holds a current position as chair of the chemistry department, who enters his 24th year teaching at Pierce as of this fall.

“This was my first time winning Professor of the year award during my time at Pierce,” said Goodman. “It was a wonderful honor to be appreciated and recognized by my colleages.”

Each year the school’s Professional Growth and Development Commitee selects, who are also part of the Academic Senate here at Pierce, have their members select who should be the winner in an unanimous pick.

During his time here at Pierce, the 53-year old Professor has dedicated alot years working in the Chemistry Department, as well as teaching classes such as Introductory Chemistry, General Chemistry, and Biochemistry. Outside of his teaching he’s also been fundamental part of the Academic structure in the College, holding a seat as Academic Vice President of the school for a number of years as well as Academic President during the fall of 2006.

Kathy Oborn, the chair of the Professional Growth and Development Committee, couldn’t agree more why Goodman was such an excellent choice for this year’s Professor award.

“He really cares about the students and the campus, and utilizes all the resources here at Pierce,” Oborn said. “He’s very much a part of the culture of the College.”

Another thing that should be mentioned about Goodman is that during the past decade he has been the driving force behind the popular Chemistry Seminar Series that are held here at Pierce throughout the semester. He does all the work that comes in obtaining the funds for these seminars, as well as lining up the speakers. In the end these Seminars have worked out well for the school. Some of them have even featured Nobel prize winner in the past, as well as many other famous writters.

During this Fall semester, Goodman will also continue serving on the Educational Planning Committee as well as the Student Success Committe here at Pierce.
