Soccer ties to long time rivals

The Pierce College women’s soccer team, now 3-1-2 (wins-losses-draws), ended their second home game drawing 2-2 against rival Moorpark College Women’s soccer team Tuesday.

Both teams started the match physically.

The unexpected occurred when Megan Moreno, Moorpark’s team captain, sustained an ankle compound fracture during a tackle in the first half, leaving the team to continue without her.

After a 40-minute delay due to paramedics on the field, the Pierce soccer team came back strong against the undefeated Moorpark (5-0-2), with mid fielder Lindsay Liggera (9) scoring a direct free kick in the 30th minute of the first half.

The streak continued, with the second goal scored by Mia Swafford (7) during the 56th minute of the second half, ending the game 2-2.

“It should be a great season,” said Swafford, whose goal is to work hard and help the team on defense and support.

Adolfo Perez, head coach of Pierce College women’s soccer team was pleased with the team’s overall performance against Moorpark, considering the team had only one day of rest after winning the Victory Valley Tournament in early September.

Coach Perez’s goal for the team is to become organized in order to excel to the state championships.

Eric Privat, head coach of Moorpark College women’s soccer team was also pleased with his team’s performance, but hopes to improve on pressure and prepare his team for different styles and highly intense physical play such as that delivered by the Pierce College women’s soccer team.

The game was “eye opening for the freshmen,” said Privat.

The next game for the Pierce women’s soccer will be at home on Friday, Sept. 14 at 4:00 p.m. against Antelope Valley College.
