The HILLEL Jewish Club has open arms to anyone who wants to join in their year around events. HILLEL had a kick off free Kosher BBQ Thursday with tropical drinks and a “rockin’ hula contest.” Andrew Schwartz, part of the Jewish Campus Services Corps Fellow, said he is looking forward to the outcome of students who join this semester. “We have about fifty to seventy members officially in the club.” Working along Schwartz are two other staff members. Club President Ben Goldberg and Pierce Jewish peer intern. Nomi Gordon the executive director. Schwartz and Goldberg said that they look forward to working with the Christian Club for events in the future. “I feel that it is very important to be tolerant in today’s society” said Goldberg. He also stated that the club feels comfortable on campus and “opened minded which is great.” Hillel has been at Pierce College for over 30 years. It has always had open doors to the students of the campus and those who are not students. Both Jewish and non-Jewish students are welcome to participate in any events which take place on the Pierce campus or California State University Northridge campus. “We would love to see anyone interested in being Jewish come around” said Goldberg. Peridicaly there are services such as Yom Kippur which take place on the CSUN campus. The Hillel club plans to host festive Sukkot (Good Deed) celebrations on October 2. Pierce has many clubs on campus and Goldberg stated that “being in a club give you a chance to meet new people and have fun.”Later on the semester Hillel plans to have a winter trip to Israel for free ten days for ages 18 to 26.
