Scoring an exciting three goals against the one goal scored by Bakersfield College on Oct. 9, the Pierce College women’s soccer team was victorious.The team was happy about the result of the game that continued their winning streak this season. The team has yet to be beat by another school in the Western State Conference. Of all games played this season, they have only been defeated once.All three goals were scored by different team members. Rebecca Mendez (3), Patricia Garcia (11) and Lindsey Liggera (9) were the players of the day for the Brahmas.Coach Aldolfo Perez was thrilled by the team’s hard work and success.”This was the most important game of the season. Bakersfield is in second place and we are in first, and this game kept us in first place against them,” Perez said. The four team captains include goal-scoring Garcia and Liggera, Mia Swafford (7) and Kimber Oborn (13). None of the players were red-carded, according to Stephanie Weaver (12), who is a freshman at Pierce College and a previous high school award-winning athlete. “If someone’s red-carded, they can’t play the rest of the game and they can’t play in the next one either,” Weaver said. At halftime, the score was 0-0 and the team discussed what they were doing wrong on the field, according to Perez. “The only new injury on the team is Amanda Bernal (2),” said Mendez, who scored one of the winning points against Bakersfield. Bernal suffered an injury believed to be a torn anterior cruciate ligament during an Oct. 2 match against Santa Monica College.. The next game will be a home game on Friday at 4 p.m. against Santa Monica College . The last game played between Pierce and Santa Monica was a tied game with a 0-0 score. There are five games left in the season for the women’s soccer team.
