$$Pierce wins last match of the season

Note to Javier: Have Patrick fix the last line (it says the next game is nov. 18, but the paper won’t come out til the nov. 28)Also, have him change the part in the third graf about “ending on a high.” It sounds like they all got stoned after the game lol… –KB

Ending the regular season with only one loss, Southern Western State Conference champions the Pierce College women’s soccer team won their last match of the season 3-0 against College of the Canyons on Nov. 9. Even though the season was over, the match wasn’t to be taken lightly. As head coach Adolfo Perez said, “They’re a rival, they usually give us a hard time.” The first half started off slowly for Pierce as they were held and it ended scoreless. In the second half, they scored three goals to secure the win and end the regular season on a high. “We started off lethargic in the first half,” said Perez. “In the second half, we played organized and moved very well.” In the end, the goals came from Rebecca Mendez and Elizabeth Salguero. Mendez grabbed a solo goal while Salguero scored a brace (two goals). Describing the performance, Salguero commented, “We didn’t play at all the way we should’ve played,” she said. “We played individual soccer in the first half, played more as a team in the second half.” Going into the match knowing that they were already champions might have played against the Brahmas. Mendez noted that it was the exact opposite. “It motivated us more,” said Mendez. “Our team is very prompt. We have a lot of depth.” Pierce College will play Cypress College on Nov. 18 in the first round of Regionals 2 p.m. at The Pit.
