A helicopter landed at a Pierce College field on Victory Boulevard and Winnetka Avenue today to take a 3-year-old girl to Children’s Hospital after she had a seizure in her mother’s car.
According to Captain Gozawa of the Los Angeles City Fire Department, they didn’t know if the girl suffered from epilepsy. The mother of the girl called for an ambulance from her vehicle while driving on Winnetka Avenue.
The incident did not occur on campus.
When the helicopter broke the silence of a somewhat empty field, the LAFD began to push back the growing crowd of students. Traffic was rendered almost motionless in order for the LAFD to secure the area in case the helicopter crashed.
“We’ve had helicopters land here numerous times, I’ve lost count,” said Robert Garber, Pierce College president. “We’re a safe place for [the LAFD] to land in an emergency.”
