“The Ruins” brought in $7.8 million to the box office since its release on April 4, which seems to be too high of a number – considering its failure to attract any sort of attention from the audience. The predictable plot of the film, directed by Carter Smith, includes a group of friends on a fun-filled vacation in Mexico.

‘Leatherheads’ an all-around hit
Sports fans looking for a real history lesson may feel a bit left out, but “Leatherheads” provides a ton of entertainment. George Clooney directs the movie and stars as an aging pro football player named Dodge Connelly, who spearheads the Duluth Bulldogs. While it appears the pro football circuit is floundering and soon to fold, college football is thriving.
All My Sons
Making its theatrical debut at Pierce College, Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons” shines on stage with brilliant dialogue, incredible acting and impressive stage design. The story focuses on Joe Keller (played by Bill Ruehl), a 61-year-old man that ships airplane parts to airplane construction sites or repair shops.
Internet addiction
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction – and one of man’s most revolutionary achievements, the Internet, is a perfect example of this. Society has leaned on the easily accessible, expeditious World Wide Web to conduct the bulk of our day-to-day operations.
Men’s volleyball setter resigns to focus on studies
The men’s volleyball team at Pierce College lost their starting setter and now they are working hard to step up their game. Sia Irilian, 18, who had been playing volleyball for nine years and was the starting setter for the Brahmas, quit after their March 12 game against Moorpark College.
Airport security vs. frustrated fidgeting
What I hate most about flying is the security check. I don’t mind the wait, or having to take off my shoes, or cramming all my embarrassing hygiene products in a transparent Zip-loc for the world to stare at, or being taken into a cubicle to be privately patted down.
Softball MVP hopes best for her last season
“She’s my best player in 10 years,” head coach Pat Grennan said of Jamie Domine, second-year player on the Pierce College softball team. Just 20 years old, Jamie Domine has a batting average of 350 and leads the team in RBIs. “Jamie has the potential to be a division one player,” Grennan said.
Careless pitching hands 11-3 game to COC
The baseball team lost 11-3 at home April 1 to conference leader College of the Canyons. Pitcher Nathan Perlitsh said despite the good plays they executed, they could not make up for the Cougars’ 16 hits. “It was a struggle,” Perlitsh said. “We had a few errors at bad times, but it’s not an excuse for hits the pitching staff gave up.
Valley swim team sinks Pierce 67-44
Valley College defeated Pierce College at swim meet Friday afternoon, 67-44. The event was a dual meet between Pierce and Valley for both men and women, with diving and swimming rounds. “We know that team very well because they train with us every day, because their pool, the pool that they’ve been using, is broken down,” said Fred Shaw, Pierce head coach.
ASO candidates speak to record student turnout
Student government candidates were given a chance to duke it out April 8, in what may have been the Associated Students Organization’s largest election forum in recent years. Speeches were delivered by 10 candidates to a crowd of about 50 students in the new Student-Community Center, which was opened just for the event, even though its development is not quite finished.
