Emerging victorious for six back-to-back games, including their conference opener, the men’s volleyball team seemed to promise a great season. Sadly, the winning streak was the team’s biggest firework, and by the time of the Western State Conference, all the sparks had gone out.

No miracles in ‘city of angels’
It’s been too long since Los Angeles sports fans had a reason to celebrate. Our Dodgers haven’t sniffed the playoffs since 2006 when they were dismantled and swept by the New York Mets. L.A.’s only powerhouse college football team, USC, failed to win it all for the third year in a row.
The circle of sports
Ending the semester doesn’t mean ending sports. Though the spring season has come to a close, fall brings soccer, football, basketball and women’s volleyball back to Pierce College. Little news is available from the majority of next semester’s teams, but new developments were available for volleyball and football.
Getting in Step
Leaping forward and back, more than 80 dancers fascinated a full-capacity crowd with their beauty, rhythm, design and dynamics in the 2008 Spring Dance Concert. Twenty-one dances by 21 choreographers, including modern dance, hip-hop, tap, ballet, dance drama and improvisation, were performed from Friday to Sunday at the Performing Arts Building.
Reality TV, a sick portrayal
What happened to Tila Tequila’s first soul mate from season one of “A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila?” What about that of Bret Michaels from “Rock of Love?” And the unlucky bloke from “I Love New York?” The sick portrayal of romance idolized by hundreds of thousands of teenagers is a twisted reflection of America’s values, which seem to be founded on an “entertainment first, integrity second” basis.
My technological distraction
Hi. My name is Harold. I’m an addict. Not to alcohol, but to technology. No matter what, I always have to be around something technological. Whether it’s a laptop or a television set, I can’t stay away from them. There used to be a time when all I did was read books.
THE WEEKLY BLOTTER
May 13 2:34 p.m. A contractor in a large construction vehicle ran into a power line on El Rancho Drive, causing the line and a pole to fall. Nobody was injured. b/t 3 and 6 p.m. An unknown person tagged on the Campus Center. 5:45 p.m. Someone cut a lock on a locker in the South Gym and stoile a wallet and a cell phone.
Students opt to stay out of debt with self discipline
Growing up, most young people no longer spend mom and dad’s money. However, they get credit cards to substitute for what they are no longer getting. Although the cost of going to college can amount to ridiculously high prices, including everything from transportation to books and laptop computers, it is become easier for students to get credit cards – and dig themselves into huge pits of debt.
‘Sneakerheads’ spend hundreds to have new, collectible kicks
Sneakers have become collectables, and the people who have them in every color and style refer to themselves as “sneakerheads.” Nike Jordans, Air Force Ones and Dunks. You name it, a true sneakerhead has it – and they also have a shirt to match. Collecting sneakers is not a cheap hobby, but it sure is a stylish one.
