New parking lot relieves first-week anxiety

SEPT. 2, 2008 – Students trying to deal with back-to-school disarray may find this semester less stressful thanks to the opening of the new 700-space Parking Lot 8 and the addition of a disabled-student van service.

The van service – which will continue for a two-week pilot – will include the new lot, located off El Rancho Drive, as one of the six pickup points.

The new spaces added in Parking Lot 8 may help relieve the temporary loss of some of the spaces from Parking Lot 7, the lot located off Victory Boulevard, due to the addition of more staff spaces for this semester.

Parking permits will be required for all vehicles parked on campus and must be hung in the rearview mirror.

Deputy Jeanine Swanson said, “Make sure students know the difference between a regular parking permit and a preferred-parking permit.

“We won’t be citing until September 15, so they need to get their passes before that.”

Parking Lot 1, the student lot located off Brahma Drive, is due to close in October to make way for 100 more staff-parking spaces.

Regular parking passes, available for $20 in the business office, will allow students to park in Parking Lot 4, located off Stadium Way, Parking Lot 8 and dirt-overflow lots on campus.

Preferred-parking passes cost $27 and permit students to park in any lot, with the exception of faculty-parking spaces.

Single-day passes may be purchased for $2 a day and are valid for all student lots.
