Quarterback Justin Collins, who suffered an on-field injury during the Brahmas’ first game against Moorpark College on Saturday night, has a broken femur and is out for the season.

Collins was injured when he broke loose for a scramble in the fourth quarter and was dropped to the ground. He was taken by ambulance to the Tarzana Medical Center where he underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition. He is expected to be released later this week.

“It was a clean break so he doesn’t need a cast,” said Pierce head coach Efrain Martinez. “They put a steel rod in his leg, so he should be up and walking in a couple of weeks.”

To replace Collins, Martinez will start freshman Taylor Budd at quarterback for the remainder of the season. Budd was previously gray-shirted, but Collins’ injury forced the team to activate him earlier than they had planned.
