Opening night at Shepard Stadium did not go exactly as planned for second-year head coach Efrain Martinez as the Pierce College football team suffered a 28-17 defeat last night to the Moorpark College Raiders.

Brahma quarterback Justin Collins attacked the Raider defense through the air with 149 passing yards as well as on the ground with 72 rushing yards, but also lost three fumbles and was involved in a frightening play later in the game.

With the clock winding down in the fourth quarter, Collins broke loose for a scramble and was knocked to the ground where he would lay conscious but in immense pain with an apparent hip injury for nearly half an hour before being transported off the field by ambulance. Team officials denied further comment on the injury.

Next up, Pierce travels to Fullerton College to take on the Hornets Saturday at 1 p.m.
