Paved farm road adds modern feel, easier access

Renee Funches

Many decades ago there was no Warner Center, Victory Boulevard or even Pierce College. Today we are an expanding world and a growing economy. Steps have to be made to accommodate for our growing community at Pierce.

Improvements were made last semester for our past ware and tear on our farm road. Instead of dirt and gravel we use to call a service road, we now have a smooth strip of road that travels through our farm area. The road is accompanied by a new parking lot.

The new road and parking lot does not change the feel or look of the country side of Pierce. There is always room for improvement no matter the place or time. As long as the animals that occupy the farm and the Equestrian Center have more than enough room to be comfortable, the sight and feel of the country will still exist.

Making access to somewhere as important as school easier, is a plus for me as well as more options to acutely finding a parking space. Coming and going all my years attending Pierce, has always been the biggest challenge for me. I drive a lot and I have also used the farm road for access to school before and in my opinion it is just easier to drive a paved road than a dirt room.

These improvements are beneficial to all students and everyone would agree that it is very stressful finding a parking spot when you are trying to make it to class on time. The new science building is going to be up and running next year and it is estimated to hold 6000 students.

Yes, the new parking lot has taken some of our farm area but it was only to accommodate for us all attending school. As it was necessary to get rid of the useless railroad tracks that were once on the other side of Victory blvd., we now have the Orange line that is used for transportation everyday by thousands of local residents as well as students here at Pierce. We are headed for a more modernize future, and it is important for us to remember or even know what was here before our generation. The country side of Pierce will give us history and culture as long as we keep it, our farm.
