‘Lakeview Terrace’ not so pleasant

Sneha Gulrajani

Lakeview Terrace came out to be a little different than what was expected from the audience.

This film stars Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Abel, a racist LAPD officer and single parent who lives with his daughter and son in Lakeview Terrace, a suburb east of Los Angeles. Chris and Lisa Mattson (Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington) are a newly married, mixed-race couple who live next door.

Abel does whatever he can do in his power to get his new neighbors to move out — taking advantage of the fact that he is a LAPD officer — all while the couple tries to gain his respect. This movie is a drama, has also some action, and is a little bit of a thriller towards some parts of the movie. But the movie kind of dragged on and some parts were not needed for the main point of the movie to come across. The movie came out to be slow but also enjoyable in some sense. The acting that Samuel L. Jackson did in the movie was mediocre. Overall, he is a great actor, but the movie did not seem to fit the role he usually plays. Washington did a satisfying job of acting the wife but it could have been done a little better. Wilson’s role as the husband may have been one of the hardest roles because he was stuck in the middle of the whole racist situation. This movie had some twists and turns but at some point left the audience kind of bored. For how many trailers and advertisements this movie had and also having featured some past award-winning actors and actresses, there was more to be expected but it did not turn out to be that way. It would have helped if there was more to the story, since the movie was dragged on a little and the situations that happened in the movie were repetitive toward the main point but were put in different ways. This movie was not a total disappointment but it is not worth seeing in the theaters.

Overall, if Lakeview Terrace were to be rated from 1-5, it would be a 3-1/2.
