The deadline to submit an application to any school in the California State University system has been moved forward to Nov. 30.
An estimated 10,000 eligible students will be turned away for the upcoming fall semester because of a lack of funds.
California’s budget crisis has forced all higher-education systems to cut costs and the CSU system has been granted $215 million less than previous years. As a result, the deadline for applications has been moved forward to limit applying students.
There are no plans to limit enrollment in community colleges, but increased class sizes will be implemented to accommodate the rise of incoming students, according to Adriana Barrera, vice chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District.
“As community colleges, our mission is to keep our doors open to all students, and we will try mightily to not turn anyone away as we anticipate having more students,” Barrera said in an interview with the Daily News.
